Come away with us into the breathtaking beauty of the Montana wilderness for a life changing mountaintop retreat. Echo Community’s TABOR retreats invite men and women into an experience which brings them closer to the truth of who they are by stretching them physically, spiritually, and mentally.
For three and a half days we will hike - with everything we need to live in the wilds of Montana on our backs - to enter more deeply into the wilderness of God’s creation and to discover the wilderness in our own hearts. Here is where we will prepare a way for the LORD. |

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I have never hiked or camped before, would this retreat be possible for me?
Yes! Infact, the purpose and structure of TABOR is to give anyone with the appropriate physical capabilities an opportunity to enter into creation with us no matter their experience level. Whether you’re an experienced outdoorsman or have never packed a pack before, TABOR is for you if you are willing and able to handle the long days of hiking and elevation changes. Experienced hikers and campers are with us every step of the way and are eager to support you on this adventure!
I have a medical condition, would my condition prevent me from going on TABOR?
That all depends on what your condition is. This is not an easy retreat, we will be hiking between 5 and 10 miles each day on the retreat in elevations above 7,500 feet. Physically, this will be an adventurous challenge for many people. If your condition revolves around physical exercise then you will want to personally discern if you can do the trip. If you have a life threatening medical condition (or are a woman who is pregnant), this retreat is not for you since we will be deep in the wilderness and hours away from the nearest hospital or medical clinic. Some members of our retreat team have general first aid training and wilderness safety training. We always strive to have more advanced trained medical personnel on the retreat with us as well to address any potential challenges which arise.
I am concerned about wildlife like bears and wolves, will they be an issue?
There are many steps and precautions we take to largely reduce the chances of encountering hostile wildlife. Bagging and storing food and trash in trees, appropriate distances for human waste locations, keeping our campsites clean, and maintaining large group communities that deter wildlife are several things we do to reduce the chance of encounters. We can never guarantee that we will not encounter hostile wildlife, but we do everything in our power to prevent a situation from arising. We will provide introductory training to everyone the first day we arrive, and provide regular reminders to everyone in order to help keep chances low for an encounter.
I have a medically diagnosed dietary restrictions, will the meals accommodate this?
Unfortunately, the food we provide cannot accommodate dietary restrictions for the most part due to the type of food we must bring with us into the wilderness. This however will not restrict you from coming, you would however need to provide your own food. We can support you in making the right decisions and educating you on what type of food to bring. There would also be an adjustment to the cost of the retreat if you choose during registration to not receive the food provided.
Will there be bathrooms available while we are camping?
Since we will be deep in the Montana wilderness there will be no established bathrooms. However, we will have pop up privacy outhouses to give you complete privacy when needed. Once we are at the campsite locations bathroom locations and policies will be established to maintain a clean and healthy environment, as well as provide the safety and privacy that everyone desires.
Will we be in cell service, and how do I stay in contact with loved ones?
For the entirety of our retreat, while we are in the mountains, there will be zero cell services. Before entering the mountains, and upon return, we will ask everyone to notify their point of contact that they are leaving cell service for a few days. This is actually a great gift for us to enter into greater silence with our LORD and also those who are on the journey with us. In the event of an emergency, we will have a satellite phone to receive calls and to send them as needed. This policy will be made clear during preparation time of our trip with all registered participants.
